Fri. eve. 9/30, I went to a program at the Stranahan on Heatherdowns. As soon as I got out of my car, I was startled by a mighty chorus of tree frogs. I can’t recall hearing so many so loud before. But what was most puzzling was the habitat or lack thereof. The place was manicured like a golf course. The trees were fairly small in a neat row running from the parking lot to the building and not even a native species to boot. On 1 side of the trees was a lawn, but immedidately to the south of them was a vast expanse of concrete. I looked all around, but couldn’t find even a ditch or anyplace where it looked like water could accumulate. If the only purpose of their vocalization is to mate and breed, I wonder where they’re going to go to lay their eggs.
